When We Were Many, 2025 — a cloud of teal, orange and pink dabs scattered across a cream canvas; the room after the centre is gone.

When We Were Many · 2025 · Acrylic on canvas · 80 × 80 cm

We thought we were the group. We thought we were the friends, the family, the room. We weren't. The "we" had a centre and we were what the centre held. The centre is gone now. We're still here. We're not the "we" anymore. We're a list of people who used to know each other through one person. Most of us haven't called each other since. We don't only grieve the one who left. We grieve who we were when the centre made us many.
